  • two round cake pans (8 x 1 1/2 inches)


  • 2 Cups All purpose flour
  • 1(1/3) cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 Tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 3 drops red food coloring
  • 3 drops blue food coloring

For The White Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 16 Oz Container vanilla frosting
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese


  • Start making the 4th of July dessert by combining all the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  • Whisk them together until thoroughly combined 
  • Then add the softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract and beat on low to medium until thoroughly combined 
  • Next add the milk to the Red white and blue cake batter and beat again until thoroughly combined 
  • Grab a second large mixing bowl and pour half the batter into the second bowl. Create two equal portions of cake batter as best you can 
  • At this point, preheat the oven to 350 degrees 
  • Grease two round cake pans (8 x 1 1/2 inches) 
  • Add 3 big drops of red food coloring to one mixing bow cake batter and 3 big drops blue food coloring to the other
  • Whisk the food coloring into each batter until thoroughly combined.
  • You can add more color if it’s not as bright red or blue as you want
  • Pour each colored batter into each greased pan 
  • Bake Red white and blue cake 20 minutes 

For The Frosting

  • To make the cream cheese frosting, simply combine a 16 oz vanilla frosting container with 1/2 cup cream cheese and beat with electric mixer until thoroughly combined 
  • It’s easiest to frost a cake when the frosting is room temperature and the cake is cold from being chilled in the refrigerator for a few hours
  • Put the blue layer on the bottom, a thick layer of white frosting in the center, and the red cake layer on the top
