Orange Creamsicle Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

This isn’t any cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting, it’s even better! Especially if you like fun, creative twists in classic desserts. Simple crescent roll and cream cheese dessert recipe ideas like Orange Creamsicle rolls is just the thing to try. The orange accent combined with the flaky dough and creamy cream cheese is absolutely out of this world delicious! 

Using crescent roll dough to make a cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting is a total game changer. It never occurred to me I could use this type of dough but now that I’ve figured it out I’ll never do it any other way! Although I’ve referred to these rolls as cinnamon rolls they do not actually co rain cinnamon. It just wouldn’t go with these flavors but it’s the classic term for this type of dessert so I’ve referenced it a few times. 

Simple crescent roll and cream cheese dessert recipe ideas like this one are delicious and fun for the whole family. It’s so easy to make it too, all you really need is a few inexpensive baking ingredients! 

Orange Cream Rolls

Ingredients for the rolls and filling:

  • 2 (8oz) cans of crescent roll dough
  • 4 oz butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 tbsp orange extract
  • 1/4 cup orange sprinkles
  • 16 oz mini marshmallows
  • 1 cups powdered sugar
  • Ingredients for the frosting:
  • 4 oz cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp heavy cream

How do you make this creative twist on cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting?

Start by lining a flat surface with parchment paper and rolling out the crescent roll dough side by side creating one large rectangle. Manually pinch the precut edges together. The next step is to combine the filling ingredients in a bowl and stir them. Use a spatula or basting brush to lather the dough with the filling, make another layer of sprinkles, and one layer of marshmallows, before preheating the oven to 375 degrees F. 

Bake the rolls for 14 minutes

Start at one of the longer edges and roll inwards like a rug until you have one long log. Slice the log into 9 pieces then line your cake pan with parchment paper. Place the rolls inside the pan and bake for about 14 minutes.

Combine all the frosting ingredients in a mixing bowl and beat until thoroughly combined and smooth! Spread it out on top of the rolls and serve! 

How do you store and reheat this simple dessert? 

Simply wrap the top of the pan with plastic wrap or foil and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can reheat it in the oven at 400 degrees F for 15 minutes or microwave for 1-2 minutes!

  • 2 (8oz) cans of crescent roll dough Total oz of dough needed is 16
  • 8 Oz butter room temperature
  • 4 Oz cream cheese room temperature
  • 1/2 Tbsp orange extract
  • 1/2 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 3 Cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 Cup orange sugar sprinkles
  • 16 Oz mini marshmallows
  • 3 Tbsp heavy cream


  • Spread out parchment paper on a hard surface then spread out the crescent roll dough in the shape of one large rectangle 
  • Pinch the dough closed where it is pre cut 
  • Make the filling – combine 4 oz butter, 1 cup powdered sugar, orange extract, and 4 tbsp orange sprinkles in a small bowl and whisk until thoroughly combined 
  • Use a spatula or basting brush to smother the dough with the butter mixture 
  • Spread out the marshmallows on top of the filling 
  • Roll the dough inward from one of the longer sides like a rug 
  • Use floss or a cake leveler to cut the roll into 9 pieces 
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F 
  • Grease a square cake pan or lime with parchment paper and set the rolls inside 
  • Bake them for 14 minutes 
  • Make the frosting by combining cream cheese, 4 oz butter, 2 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract, and 3 tbsp heavy cream 
  • Beat until smooth and cream 
  • When rolls are done allow them to rest 10 minutes then smother with the frosting!
