So you are thinking about starting a money making blog and you’ve found this page! That’s great because I’m here to give you all the information you need to know for free. Let’s get into How To Start A Blog That Makes Money.
I’ll start by telling you about my story and how I became a successful blogger. I’m a stay at home 30 something wife and mother of two. I do have a cosmetology license and experience in the service industry.
However when I became pregnant with my youngest I knew I did not want to leave her at day care. My husband works full time plus runs a side business so he’s gone a lot. My first instinct was to apply for Uber or Lyft so I could work nights and weekends.
That’s when I found myself at a road block. What I haven’t mentioned yet is that I’m a grateful recovered alcoholic/addict. So unfortunately I have a DUI related charge on my record. So my Uber application was immediately rejected!
Even though I have been clean and sober for 3 years I’m still responsible for my past actions. So when I was pregnant I decided I would put all my energy and efforts into starting a profitable blog. This way I could always be with my kids and I won’t have to worry about that pesky DUI.
The ways to make money with your blog include click through advertisements, affiliate advertisements, and sponsored posts. You can also sell products or services.
But first you have to create a quality website. Here are the easy steps:
Step 1 Pick A Niche
I started doing research on blogs. The first thing I learned was that I needed to pick a niche. Your blog needs to have a basic theme. What are you going to write about? If you’re going at this with a business mindset you should consider one of the most profitable niches. According to research and statistics those categories include:
You need to pick your niche before you get to step 2.
Step 2 Choose A Domain
Your domain name is your website name. My first blog is a vegan recipe blog. My domain is www.Anyreasonvegans.com. You want your domain to be simple and representative of your niche.
Some examples of how to pick a domain include: let’s pretend your name is Amanda and you want to create a blog about fashion and beauty. You could try something like “trendymandy.com.”
Maybe your name is Sarah and you want to create a lifestyle blog. You could try “simplysarah.com.” Other example could be (for a recipe blog) “easyeats, easyrecipes, flavorfuleats, etc.
These are just examples off the top of my head to help you create your own domain.
FYI, you don’t want your domain to have any symbols or punctuations. That is because it’s harder for people to type in and less likely they will chose your website over others in your same niche with easier domains to type in. So if your first choice is already taken try something else. Don’t add any _, $, or *. That’s just my suggestion.
Step 3 Pick A Web Hosting platform
I learned that although there are free hosting platforms out there, it’s highly unlikely you will make money with one. You definitely can not put up click through ads.
Free platforms are also going to be slow and owned by someone other than yourself. Furthermore those type of websites are not going to ever rank high in google search. Ranking high on Google is ultimately the goal. Especially if you want to make money.
The top ranking web host sites include Bluehost, GoDaddy, and HostGator Cloud. Others include Hostinger, SiteGroud, and WebHosting Buzz. You should do your own research on any and all and compare. However I’ve been using Bluehost myself for 2 years and I would definitely recommend it.
Bluehost has affordable pricing, great reputation, immediate response customer service, and many other benefits. *Read more about the benefits of Bluehost to hell you make your decision.
